Hello all,
I made a blueberry orange mead and took a reading of the honey/water mixture then another after I added the fruit. They were different but which one is best?
thanks,
Art

I would use the one before. The fruit of course add solids and may hold the hydrometer up a bit.

With that said blueberries do bring sugars and you should account for them as the yeast woll or could comsume them.

Blueberries bring 15 g of sugar per cup. (Depends on the blueberries, could be a bit more or less.)

That would make sense. I did use a strainer bag and mashed the berries but there were still particles floating around in the hydrometer. I was thinking that should throw the second reading off a bit.
Thanks for your input
