out of the back of his pick up truck. This guy pulls up in my driveway in this old beater mini pick up truck that has a freezer strapped in the back and is selling these packs of frozen meat, fish and chicken. He's doing this big high pressure sales pitch like some car dealer and every time I say no the price goes down and the deal keeps changing. He even starts writing up a receipt as I'm telling him "no thank you". $80 for some fillets and rib-eyes.
Anyone ever have this happen or dealt with this type of sales? Plus the dude had powerful cigarette breath.

Yeah I get that **** all the time, I tell them i'm not interested and if they don't listen profanity and threats are brought into play... I cannot stand solicitation at at all, especially at my residence.

I saw a truck like that once. It was advertising squirrel and coon meat, among other things. He had catfish, gar and carp, too. His whole menu was painted on his truck by hand with what looked like roofing tar and a sock.

Was the meat packaged in vacuum packs, and in boxes? DId you happen to notice the name of the brand? I've been nailed by one of those...I think there's at least one or two companies that deal like this...I think one of them is Iowa Steaks...

Pretty high pressure...I don't know about the quality of the meat...it could be horse for all we know...I've heard of people showing up at bars and other places of business and doing the same thing.

There's a few threads on other forums bitching about them too...

One comes through the neighborhood now and then...

Funny thing is he only stopped at our house ONCE. Don't remember what I said to em but it must have been good...

Seriously, the best thing to do is to get their license number and report it to the local health department. If they don't have a mobile food vendor license (by the sound of it, they don't), what they're doing is illegal and someone could get sick.

(It's also illegal to sell wild game in most states, licensed vendor or not.)

I would do this. Also letting them know you are doing it isn't a bad idea.

He did have some Health board license stuck on the back of the truck.

I'd tell him I'm all stocked up from the hooker I killed last week and thank him respectfully.

nice... are your fishies flesh eaters? ;)

just messin with ya laurel, i know your fish are top notch! all i've got left is a plecco and a san rafiel catfish... they're going on three years old

Omaha steaks are the only high quality frozen steaks that I know of. I bought a "look alike" this summer, and ended up giving them away to my employees.(They'll take anything) Seroiusly, I was actually thinking about taking them to the grocery store and asking the meat department to grind them up for hamburger. Unless they say "Omaha" don't bother.

Ask him to show you his biz license & inspection card from the health dept. That should slow him down & even send him packing. Also a "NO SOLICITING" sign will help. Regards, GF.

There are actually quite a few VERY good mail order frozen meat distributers. Many of which are better than Omaha. The only thing is that none of them are as popular as omaha so noone has ever heard of them.

I've had them show up twice (previous address and this one). Same crap. Chest freezer in a little tiny truck, almost bottoming out. They were pushing "food" from Jersey I think. The last time they pulled up, I headed them off in the driveway, he started his pitch, then the 5-0 rolled up. I didn't have to say a word, and he hasn't been back. My luck, I'll see him later today....
