Last weekend I brewed NCBeernut's deception cream stout. I did the original version with DME and specialty grains. I ordered the grains crushed and steeped them in muslin grain bags.

All went well until I was transferring the wort from the BK to the carboy. I was pouring into a funnel and through a mesh strainer. I'm used to having to spoon hops out of the strainer occasionally during the transfer. But this time the funnel would fill up with wort and I was constantly removing debris from the strainer. The debris looked like tiny pieces of grain. I don't know if the grain crush was too fine or if I should have "double bagged"?

My major concern is will that impart any off flavors since it was present in the boil? I tasted the OG sample and it was good initially then there was a strong bitterness on the back end. It's possible it was just green beer hop bitterness and I'm just paranoid. This is the first time I've used a higher AA hop like the magnum in this recipe. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

You'll be fine. One of the reasons I'd suggest you not bother straining the wort. It just gives you things to worry about and get paranoid. Sorta....Out of sight our of mind, if you know what I mean. Just dump it in the fermenter and RAHAHB.

Cheers!
