A waitress friend of mine I know at the local brewpub said she had some beer equip at her house for me. Brother moved to Seattle and didn't need it all and told her to give it to me.

Can't use the plastic 1/2 bbl keg or pin-lock but the rest of it :rockin: :rockin:. I only have glass carboy's today, that one there is plastic. Is that a better bottle or just a water cooler jug? Thinking the latter but thought I'd ask. I finally have a reason to build that 3-tier with two (edit three; read below) 1/2bbl kegs in my possesion finally :D.

Oh yea, James if you're out there, thanks much dude! Good luck in Seattle. Never found out what your handle was here.

Nice score!

That 1/2 barrel keg might just be coated with plastic - I've seen some like that. Regardless, take the valve apart, drill the bottom for a dump valve, and you have a hell of a fermenter!

Oh, and that looks like a water cooler jug to me - definitely not a Better Bottle.

Yes on plastic coating. Sh!t, I forgot about using it as a mash. That's what you were thinking right?

Mash tun or fermenter - it could be used as either. You'd have to cut the top off to use it as a mash tun. For use as a fermenter, you'd just need to disassemble the tap valve. For either purpose, you'd almost definitely want to add a drain valve fitting at the bottom (preferably welded).

I'm thinking mash. I got a good friend of mine who works at a custom metal shop who's been wanting to help (ie. build) my 3-tier. I keep telling him to wait until we get the kegs. Black keg for mash, non-coated keg shown for boil and my current 1/2bbl with temp gauge & ball valve as HLT. He's been chomping at hacking open a keg with his plasma cutter to see how it does. Always good to have friends in the metallurgy biz for our hobby.

What does "Ban T.O." mean? With a neck like a bull, or perhaps a rhino, I'm thinking that guy in your icon might be a football player.

Basically, he's a headcase. I could expand but that 127.0.0.1 (loopback to you ;)) makes it difficult to put that guy into context. If you're from Europe you may consider the equal to Zidane but I'm not sure if he is even close to as vilified. FYI - his name is Terrell Owens and yep, US Football. Three team killer and still gets PAID!

Basically excellent athlete but bad for the sport.

Check for a number on the bottom of the cooler bottle; if it's a "1" (PET), you're golden, if it's a "7," it's mixed plastic and worthless except for stashing some cool, refreshing H2O.

EDIT: AWESOME score!

It'll eat through it like Rosie O'Donnell goes through a box of donuts...except the end result will be much more attractive. My other hobby is garage toys and metal working...homebrewing pairs quite well with it!

Might want to check the dates on the CO2 tanks before you go to fill them up. They have to be re-tested every 5 years.

yep on testing. I got my little 5 lb tank in the fridge now so am in no great hurry to kick these off yet. Where I get mine filled, they can test as well. Probably sell one of these; or give it away. Two's all I really need.
