Hello,
I currently only use a primary when brewing. However, my next batch is a stout with a suspected ABV of 10.8%. I was planning on keeping it in the primary for 6 weeks, but should I move it from the primary into a secondary after 2 weeks or is it unnecessary?

It is a ginger bread stout and I will be kegging.
Thanks!
-Aaron

Are you bottling or kegging? You wont do any harm by transferring to a secondary for awhile. If you are bottling, you can go forth and bottle and check on one in a few months to see how it tastes, and go from there. If kegging, you can use it as a secondary fermenter. Once you are ready for the beer to be on tap, just carb and serve.

Personally, this is one of the times I would use a secondary, for that big a beer. I might give it 3 weeks in primary first though.

I would go a month primary and keg - I use kegs as secondary / storage all the time. Might be worth letting it naturally carb a little in keg at room temp.

I tko like to use kegs as the secondary. Once your ready to carb/serve you can. No need to do another transfer
