secondary in plastic...

Is it recommended to only use glass for secondary, or is it fine to use plastic buckets as long as the beer is only going to sit for a few weeks?

Thanks for the info. - I'm assuming that glass is necessary for anything longer than that?

I use glass myself so hopefully someone that uses plastic will chime in.
I use glass because its not porous like plastic and doesnt scratch for hold bacteria.

I don't exactly know what a good PET bottle/bucket would do worse than a glass carboy, but I've used a Better Bottle for my secondary for the last several brews and never noticed anything strange. And as far as bacteria, I would think that not only is the PET pretty safe, but the alcohol in your fermented beer would ward off any nasties.

Glass carboys scare the hell out of me. it's heavy, hard to handle, can be dangerous and it's glass!

I think the main reasons people use glass carboys are:
Aside from the fact they can break if dropped, they're quite durable and avoid scratches.
It's tradition.
You can gaze longingly at your brew.
