So I would like to get a coffee flavored stout extract kit, but It calls for adding the brewed coffee after racking the beer to a secondary. I do not currently own a secondary.

Can I just add the coffee to the primary after fermentation is complete? Or mix it in at bottling time? What are your thoughts? Thanks

Either will work fine. If you've got some time to kill, you might want to mix up a small sample to see if the concentration is what you have in mind before going into the bottling bucket. Keep in mind that flavors will mellow over time.

Ok thanks. I wasn't sure if there was any "magic" going on when racking to secondary. The directions say to rack to secondary, add coffee, let it sit for a week then bottle.

But if you guys dont see any benefit to this, then that saves me having to buy a glass carboy. Although Midwest is selling them today for 30% off!

if you add at bottling time you can add in incremental amounts and taste it, until you like the balance.

this way you don't add too much and ruin your brew.

just be sure to sanitize the heck out of whatever you use to pull the samples (like a turkey baster).
