Did my second brew on Sunday... checked it yesterday and it was bubbling away. Came home today and the top had blown off the bucket after it looks as if it gysered out of the bubbler. Anything suggestions to prevent that in the future?
 
This will happen to me when I ferment with WLP029. I started using a blow off tube after my first explosion and now I use it for all of my fermentations, just in case.
 
I had that happen with my first batch. I now use a blow off tube while every batch is in the primary and I switch to airlocks for secondarys. Mine was fun as my batch had a nice geyser effect in the closet where my clothes are hanging. 5 loads of laundry later and 50 bucks in dry cleaning my suits.... *sigh*
 
I have about six weeks worth of beer brewing knowledge which means I know enough to be dangerous to myself and those around me. That said, I think the consenses will be you need a blow off tube. Remove you air lock, stick tubbing, sanitized I'm sure, into your bubbler hole in the top of the bucket and run the other end of the tubbing into a second container of sanatizing solution. Make sure the "other end" remains below the liquid level to create the air lock. I've even seen where people put the container of blow off liquid into an empty larger bucket just to be safe.

If I were you though, I'd look around for other answers before I believed me, but this is what I'd do.

Yep... will definitely be using a blow off tube on future batches. Luckily it was in the pantry and only spewed on the floor and secondary with my first batch in it.
 
use dry yeasts. they replicate at a reasonable speed, have many varieties that do most beers, and never blow off
 
Blow outs are not due to dry or liquid yeasts, but the virility of the yeasts, the amount of fermentables, and the temperature of the fermentation. Dry yeast is NOT less prone to blow out nor is it MORE prone to blow out.
 
I'm going to find a decent glass bottle and fashion a blow off rig for future batches. Just shocked me to see the aftermath of the blowout lol. Hoping the beer will be fine, time will tell.

your beer will be fine. a growler filled with sanitizer works great
