I have been using a kit from Brooklyn Brew Shop that comes with a screw cap to put on the fermenter jug. After brewing and storing it, I noticed that the screw cap was broken, and, the next morning, foam was oozing out of the sides of the cap. I put wet paper towels around the cap, and now the foaming at the cap stopped, and co2 is flowing through the blowoff tube like it should.

Do I have to worry about my beer getting contaminated overnight before I put the paper towels on? It what I did enough to prevent the beer from becoming oxidized?

The krausen oozing out would have kept anything from getting in. No worry about oxidation. The headspace of your fermentor is filled with CO2 from the active fermentation.

if there is stuff coming out of the crack it is likely that the co2 pressure is strong enough to have kept most of the oxygen out. As for the infection possibility anything is possible but unless its sitting wide open in an unsanitary place you are likely ok. I would suggest replacing the cap asap. You could possibly sanitize some tinfoil and make a duct tape bandaid where the tinfoil is the gauze part that would cover the crack. I wouldn't leave the paper towels on there very long that could lead to mold quick.
