Well, i tried to MIG weld a couple of 1/2" couplings into a Sanke keg I picked up at a scrap yard. I used the correct stainless wire and gas but the welds turned out like crap. they hold water but they will hold lots of funky bugs.
To fix it it I was thinking of removing the 1/2" and have 1" TIG welded in.. Has anyone tried to do this? Is 1" a stupid size? or should I scrap the whole thing and start over.

should be fine, in an hour of boiling any crevice in the weld will be at least 200* F, any critters in there will be totally blasted.

Hi

Grind it back as best you can *without* making it leak or weakening the weld. If the outside surface bugs you to death, slap a little high temperature epoxy on it. It's pretty much just for looks, but it won't hurt anything.

I'd just clean it up and use it if it was mine...

Isn't this where someone chimes in with the obligatory : "Yep, it's probably toast. Send it to me and I'll dispose of it for you" ?

So anyway, yep it's probably toast. Send it to me and I'll dispose of it for you.

Probably less postage to send it to you than to me....:D
