Scrapped a keg:(

Well, i tried to MIG weld a couple of 1/2" couplings into a Sanke keg I picked up at a scrap yard. I used the correct stainless wire and gas but the welds turned out like crap. they hold water but they will hold lots of funky bugs.
To fix it it I was thinking of removing the 1/2" and have 1" TIG welded in.. Has anyone tried to do this? Is 1" a stupid size? or should I scrap the whole thing and start over.

If you are using the keg for anything that will be boiled (HLT, MT or Boil kettle) bugs shouldnt be an issue.

I will be using it for a boil kettle...

should be fine, in an hour of boiling any crevice in the weld will be at least 200* F, any critters in there will be totally blasted.

If it doesn't leak, it will be fine. Clean it up with some abrasive and bar keepers friend. Make some beer!

Hi

Grind it back as best you can *without* making it leak or weakening the weld. If the outside surface bugs you to death, slap a little high temperature epoxy on it. It's pretty much just for looks, but it won't hurt anything.

I'd just clean it up and use it if it was mine...
