Howdy,

I kinda messed up my first Scottish Ale mini mash because I added to much crystal malt so I wanted to check in before I made my second attempt. I'm shooting for a scottish ale...

Wyeast Scottish Ale 1728, it will make a difference.

We hope you will top off to 23L before boiling (or as much as your pot holds). A 7L boil won't allow for much bittering.

I just listened to a great podcast on The Brewing Network about Scottish Ale's. It has loads of info.
Scottish Ale - look for the Oct 9th show

Okaly fifelee, quit holding out. ;)

Where can I get in tuned to this Brewing Network?

I mean...c'mon...a network dedicated to brewing beer...YEAH BABY! :rockin:

LS_Grimmy, so you probably already heard the Scottish Ale show? I also enjoy the Brewing Network, great info and funny as hell. Highly recommended. But I didn't mean to hijack your thread. Anyone got advice on Scotish Ale's?

Hey no worries it's all good... I listened to the show on the Scottish ale and it had some good stuff on it. Took some good notes for Scottish ale. I guess it is suppose to be a slightly sweet beer with low-medium bitterness, low hop aroma/flavor and an OG of about 1.055. Anyone else agree? :)
Oh ya I added 1 pound of light dry malt extract because OG was to low

Your description is very close to what my taste buds experience. I love the scottish ales here in Edinburgh like Caledonian, McEwan's, & Belhaven's. I wish I had an ability with discriptive words, but let me try...They are light and easy to drink yet have lots of flavor. Light might not be the correct word, smoothe would be better..almost a creamy mouth feel maybe from being cask conditioned and yes, very little hop. How are you going to serve it? I think the higher temp and lowerer cask carbonation add a lot to the beer.
