Thought I'd share a little bit of a gloat here, since I'm still rather floored by what just happened to me this morning...
I'm in the early processes of getting my kegerator together - I know basically what I'm shooting for, now I'm just trying to figure out the most cost effective way to get all the bits and pieces I need.
I recently picked up the kegging starter kit from NB - got a 5lb cylinder, regulator, gas line, and beer line with picnic tap. Not a bad starter set up, to be sure.
Anyway, I'm likely to have my first keg filled up and ready to go very soon - possibly this weekend, so I had to get my cylinder filled. I called a couple places and found a local fire safety place that would fill the cylinder for $25. Since I've been reading like crazy around here, I knew this to be highway robbery. I asked my brewing buddy where he fills his cylinders, and he pointed me to a local beverage supply place - Nobby Beverages in Plainville, for any CT residents.
I dropped off my tank yesterday (they fill 'em up in batches a couple times a week), and got the call that it was ready today already - nice timing. I went in, gave the nice lady my $9 for the filled tank and asked if, by any chance, they sold any old corny kegs.
I wound up leaving the place with my filled 5lb CO2 tank, 3 cornies, connectors for 4 cornies, several yards of braided gas line, and a 4-way manifold with all fittings.
All for $9.
Holy crap. Wonder if I can pull off a similar deal somewhere for the shanks and faucets...
