Apparently when brewing a new batch, it is common to float a scoby on top of the mix. Then what happens? Does a new scopby grow underneath the original one and separate? Does the original one just get thicker? If a new one forms, does it stick together with the original?

They cling together and the top one is the new one. I separate and repitch the new one and the old gose in the compost. It's more important to add starter fluid then a scoby to a new batch.
