Something terrible happened this evening. A bug - a sort of scarab - took a long dive into my cooled wort as I was adding water to reach the 5gal mark. I had to filter the wort into another carboy to get the bugger out.

I could not resolve myself to dump the wort because of this and so decided to continue and added the yeast (wlp565)

Do you think my Belgian saison is doomed or can I keep hope?

Thanks.

It'll be fine, he didn't drink much. Also, now you have a name for your saison:

"Saison ode de Scarab":rockin:

Thanks, I'll be able top sleep tonight. I measured a OG of 1.072. hopefully too sweet for the common bacteria.

Excellent idea for the name ! I'll keep it.

Better than my thought, simply "Scarab Saison". My first beer ever was a pale ale, and after starting the siphon, I spit what I had sucked into the ferementer without thinking. My last name is Schaefer, combine with "spit", it was dubbed "Schit Pale Ale". Tasted great.

Don't worry, you're fine.

dont even worry about it dude. It will be money. you diddnt even need to strain it. Id be more worried about complete fermentation to dry it out. you may wish he brought in some wild ones.

Now that you say it, it looks like I inadvertently invented the "dry bugging".
Hopefully everything will turn well and I'll be able to report here on my success.
Thanks a lot for your support.
