I did little experiment tonite. I took a sanke insulator from keg connection and added water from the faucet and coffee pot got the temp up to 123 deg only dropped 4 deg in 1 1/2 hrs. do I really need a cooler, I just ordered a cooler conversion kit from bargain fittings but dont know wether to use it or not what is your thoughts. If the water was warmer like 150 deg wouldnt it even hold heat a little longer.

The higher the heat, the greater the delta to ambient and the greater the heat loss. Likely it will also depend on batch size...a keggle w/ 30 pouds of hot grist would likely maintain temp better than a batch w/ 8 pounds of grist. The "sanke insulator" sounds like a decent approach.
