Sanitizing with fire

So, a friend sent me this jokingly stating this is how we should sanitize glass carboys and kegs from now on...



It struck me that in addition to looking cool, this should be a valid way to sanitize and purge oxygen from the chamber. Other than it being possibly dangerous to do indoors, why wouldn't this be a valid way to sanitize?

Sure it would sterilize the carboy. And possibly crack it.

I do use my cigar torch for sterilizing the lip of flasks and such for starters. Only when its nearby though. Starsan or boiling is much easier and safer.

I'm sure Starsan is safer. I was just commenting on actual effectiveness.

How would it crack the carboy unless you rapidly cooled the carboy after flaming it?

Let me start off by saying "cool video" but....

If you look closely there are dozens of flaws in the average carboy (air bubbles mostly), with each one of them your tendency to have a catastrophic failure increases. Adding fire and explosive pressure would appear to be a multiplier to me.
