Picked up cans after the weekend Pug dog adoption event.

Don't Forget Me DIPA is pretty great from the cans, Mostly Citra with Eldo and Vic. Very little bitterness, big juice up front. Usually the Moksa cans need a week or so, this one is ready from day 1.

They also made the local TV news...

All of my friends (all moksa members) have yet to be impressed with a single IPA/DIPA from them. One of them said they all have a chalky taste/mouthfeel going on. Seeing as you are the only one that ever posts about them here, I am starting to think my friends are right and Moksa is only good for the (extremely overpriced) stouts.

The last 2.... Winter Somewhere(Nelson) and Don't Forget Me have been better. Others ranged between average to solid after getting a week or so in the can. I have seen mostly positive reviews on the Moksa Mafia and Moksa Member FB groups for the last 2. Over 100 posts there.

Seems they did change up some of the brewing process for this last one per their IG. Like I mentioned there was some bitterness (to green?) from the previous can releases. Possibly this is what they were mentioning?

Yeah, seems to be just me and KevSal posting here at TB. Most people don't use old school message boards anymore. Everyone on FB or IG.

So a group created by a bunch of fanbois for fanbois and the member group are your two reference points? Maybe those people are a bit biased? IDK I trust my friends more than someone that seems to come to this forum to talk to himself about how good moksa is. Either way, beer in 2018 is dumb.

I understand your point about the FB groups. Slanted, yes. Bad ipa batches (Fiend Zone ipa) were called out, so it is not a complete echo chamber of only good reviews. I also commented on the bitter/Green aspects of the previous hazy cans twice above.

On the bigger SAC beer FB groups with 1,000s of members (SBE & SBG), generally favorable reviews from what I have seen. Those can't all be Moksa fanbois? I believe you are part of those groups as well.

Not enough untappd ratings to get a real honest gauge either.

As far as posting here, just looking for some opinions/conversation on Sac beer OUTSIDE the FB groups, not trying to promote any particular brewery. Seems like it falls on mostly deaf ears other then a couple posters above who were interested. I don't trade at all, so hyping trade value is not at all my intention.

How was the New Glory 5th Anv Event that you posted about earlier btw?

I've for sure been banned from both groups lol. SBG the admins didn't like me SBE the admin didn't like me calling out his protecting of one of his merch sale honey holes. Both of those groups are the worst. It does seem that central valley people stay off the forums, makes sense since 95% of them are confirmed new money AF lol. Beer forums are confirmed old money.

The NG event was FANTASTIC other than the weather which they couldn't control. However they had plenty of shade and two giant fans moving air around. Only suggestion (which seems the suggestion for EVERY beer fest) is more water and more bathrooms.

Derek dropped off the latest release when he came down for our collab last Friday. Had take me home last night. Was a solid West coast dipa. Couldn't imagine haze bros liking it since it was nice and pine with some actual bitterness. Having don't forget me right now. Solid lacing in my glass. Another good beer.

Y'all are prettt spot on with the Sac town crowd. I'm in both of those main groups and while although the area is seeing a tremendous rise in the number of breweries, the craft seen is really young comparatively. You still see plenty of "Pliney over hyped or not hazy" and "Urban Roots is cool but where are all the ipas? Only one? " New to the scene and yelp reviewers would be the best way to decribe it I guess.

"Urban Roots is cool but where are all the ipas? Only one? " hahahahhaha ahaaahahahahahah stupid fuckers! Such amazing saisons right under their nose!

I see that Moonraker had three cans still as of yesterday. Will they still be available at opening today, best guess? They're not picking up their phone.

Per their IG they had cans of all 3 on Sunday. Moonraker cans last far longer now with the 2nd production facility down the street.

I was up in Auburn on Saturday, but didn't stop by. Did you get to try the Hoppiness Unlimited IPA?

Moonraker in Auburn still on point with the IPAs. Took home cans of Atomic Betty DIPA.

sampled One IPA, Hoppiness Unlimited DIPA and Hazy Rider Pale.

Also had a pint of the new Czech PILSNER. Great with the hot weather.

I'll be in Sacramento for a few days in November for a work conference. Conference is in a hotel near the airport. No car, but can obviously Uber/Lyft.

Tentative plan after arriving late afternoon: ride to Fieldwork for beers and late lunch. Walk to Capital Hop Shop for food/more beer. Uber back up to Track 7 (Natomas), then back to hotel. Seem legit? Anything else to hit on that general route? Looked at Moksa but its a bit out of the way. Definitely open to suggestions!

Sucks you are way out by the airport. (no mans land) I would try to get to New Glory if you can, it's not too far from Fieldwork. (15 mins or so)

Fieldwork is pretty small, I don't remember much (if any) in the way of food.

They bring food in from the place next door. Also echo the New Glory call. In fact, I would go there over T7/Fieldwork if you had to chose.

Urban Roots is another option for downtown Sac.

I'll have most of an afternoon/evening to myself. Maybe I do Fieldwork/New Glory/Capital Tap for beers/dinner instead of Track 7, and just go back to the hotel from there.

Yeah, bummed that the conference/hotel is all the way out by the airport, usually it's closer to the downtown area. Plan now may be uber to New Glory, uber to Fieldwork, walk to Capital Tap for whatever else from the area is on, the back for the night. We'll see. Will definitely be checking taplists at Capital Hop Shop, maybe they'll end up with New Glory on. I'd never really heard of them before this.

I think New Glory is the best brewery in Sacramento proper. They do hops, lagers and stouts very well.

There is also a brewery really close to New Glory called Device. It's a decent spot, but not really a must visit.

Wow, OK. Maybe I'll make New Glory my first stop. I fly up Veteran's Day for conferences the two days after. Glad I decided to take the noon flight up to enjoy the day, sounds like I've got some sites to see.

damn and it looks like sac will be getting my bay area secret too dammit!

drakes barn opening oct 24th in west sacramento. drakes has some of the best and under appreciated barrel program most of which is tap only

Go to Track 7.

I'll just come out and state the obvious that I'm a huge homer for Track 7. We go back a long way in the industry together. That being said, they are the first true innovator in the Sacramento beer scene. Their beer is consistently great to awesome, but sadly, their hype game is truly second rate.

Check the tap list at Natomas (or Curtis Park or The Other Side), if there's some beer on there that sounds interesting, go and enjoy.

IDK what Track 7 you have been to, but their beer is for sure not great to awesome. I would put them in the ok to good category. Better than most in the Sacramento area for sure but IMO New Glory has well passed up Track 7 as far as beer quality goes.

I neither compared Track 7 to any other brewery, nor did I discourage jwacky from visiting New Glory or any other brewery. I simply confirmed his desire to visiting Track 7 to be a good option.
