Hi all, I am new to brewing, especially cider brewing. So I started a 3 gallon batch of cider 5 days ago.
I used 3 gallons of local cider, about 2.5# of brown sugar, and about 2.5# of chopped raisons.
I opened up the fermenter today to take a look at things and see how it was going. It had a really thick top brown foam-ish layer and a somewhat off smell. It smelled almost like it was giving off alcohol or something, it wasn't terribly strong, but it just smelled off for a cider.
Another thing, floating on the top layer was a lot of round brown things. I wasn't sure if it was raisons that had filled up with gas from fermenting or what.
it is still fermenting fine, and i intend on giving it another week or so and seeing where its at but I just wanted some input from anyone more experienced
thanks
