Hello everyone. Been lurking here using the iphone app for a while, figured I'd join and contribute to the conversation.

Been making wine for about 10 years. Took a few years off when my wife and I had kids and during grad school (just the making not the drinking).

Back at it again and seemed to have caught the cider bug! It's faster, cheaper, and after not drinking for several years my wife seems to like it better than wine.

Have several batches going and looking to ferment a few more with fall approaching.

Thanks!

Welcome! Which part of WA?

If you haven't done a batch of Ed Wort's apfelwein, try it. If you like cider, you'll probably enjoy mead. Both are similar in preparation, both can be mixed with spices, fruit, etc. Both can be still or sparkling. Both can be dry or sweet. I always have some cider on hand, as well as wine and of course beer. Mead is new to me, but enjoying it so far.

Welcome to the group, from CO :mug:

Actually, Ed Wort's recipe was the first one I tried. Turned out fantastic! Tried it a second time and stopped fermentation a little early so it wasn't so dry and again it was great.

I haven't yet tried straight mead but I've been playing around with Cuesta with mixed results. I figured I'd do a small batch or two of mead this winter. Just not looking forward to aging it for 1-3 years.

Gig Harbor

I'm just over the bridge from you!
If you're interested in hooking up with a group of brewers, Homebrewers of Puget Sound meets the second Saturday of each month at Mash homebrew supply in Tacoma at 4:30. We meet this Saturday, and in October we're having a cider press down in Castle Rock, where you can get in on the pressing, and get fresh cider for 3 bucks a gallon. PM me if you're interested! I'll be bringing the cyser I made from last year's press (when we pressed 5000 pounds of apples!).
