Guys,

I am focusing in the water to improve my beer, i used to go with tap water and now have moved to spring water from walmart.

Question thou, i have read good stuff about RO water in other threads and i have this thing in my house:

http://www.costco.ca/Premier-4-stag...Water-filtration-System.product.10319005.html

I rented the house with this thing already installed and just now i figured out this may actually work for me.

Do you guys think this can produce water as good as spring water for my beer?

Thanks

It should be noted that you will likely (almost definitely) have to add some minerals back into your water after you run it through the RO filter to get your ion concentrations at useful levels. You may have to acidify it as well.

You will want to check how old those filters are. Since you are in a rental my guess is they are original and therefore not working anywhere near optimal performance levels.

I am using a new carbon filtration "system" to get rid of the chlorine and chloramine taste from my city water. In fact, I will be using it for the first time today and hope it will make my beers cleaner and crisper tasting. Activated carbon does not remove any minerals from the water like your RO system can (if filters are new).

Good luck.

Change those filters out, six months in still water contact and they will start to grow stuff. Whole house filters have constantly moving water.

Also, looks like the filters are 12" long... ??

Thanks for the replies guys.

Changing the filters would cost about $100 looks like, if even after doing that i still have to add minerals back befoir brewing, it gets me thinking if i am not better off using spring water...

Since i have just started with the spring water i will wait for the first batch and see how it tastes and how much difference the water makes i think.

Those are 11 inches, is this a good thing?

Oh crap! Those are sealed cartridges! Not a big fan of propriety carts, I like a standard 10" x 2.5" cart personally. I am a big fan of the eBay type systems, clear housings, less leaking, STANDARD replacement materials.
