Let me begin by saying that this is my first venture into kegging and I may be asking/doing some Newbie things, but any help would be appreciated.
I bought some music things off a guy from craigslist and after chatting, as an afterthought, he threw in some brewing stuff, including a Co2 regulator. It's very old, and although it pushes the Co2 through, the gauge is shot, so I can't get a reading on how many PSI's I'm pumping into my keg. Assuming this was no way to start off my kegging, I purchased a MicroMatic regulator online. Now, since I am super excited to get this process rolling, I decided while I wait for the new one to arrive, I would use the faulty regulator to test for leaks in the keg and also to pump sanitizer through my lines. I had some extra time on my hands yesterday, so I also thought it would be a good idea to go ahead and rack my fully fermented Brown Ale into the keg and just let it sit in the kegerator to chill in preparation for the arrival of the new regulator. In my haste, I didn't think to purge the keg of Oxygen and it has now been sitting in the keg for nearly 24 hours. I am not home and won't be able to do this for another 4-5 hours. Is this enough time sitting in the closed keg to cause oxidation? Furthermore, once I do purge the keg, is it OK to take it off the gas and let it sit, or should I keep Co2 pressure on it "blindly" (with the faulty regulator) until I get the new one? Thanks in advance for your help!
