I've been brewing for a while now and recently made my first batch of cider. Typically when I am finished with a beer yeast I rinse it with water and store it for my next brew. My question is can I do the same with cider yeast? My thought is because of the pectins in the juice I might need to acidulate the water and scrub the yeast. Any thoughts?

I don't have the link and am not inclined to go searching again. If you google "washing yeast" and read through the myriad results, quite a few references will mention that anything 6% abv or higher shouldn't be washed as it won't yield as high of a yeast count. There are also other places (few and far between) that will mention ciders specifically and say something to the effect of it shouldn't be done because the yeast aren't getting enough nutrition to remain viable.

That said, I have done 3 one gallon batches of 2nd generation yeast. I didn't wash it, just poured new juice and honey on top of the yeast cake. Took longer to taste good, but it did work.
