Replace Butterfly Gasket? (Picture included)

I just upgraded my system and am unfamiliar with some of these parts. Does this gasket need to be replaced?

does it work? you say you just upgraded, is it new? It looks like edpm rubber and despite the slight scuffing of the surface from what I assume is use it shouldnt cause issues unless there are slices and such that could harbor bacteria.

Thanks. I purchased slightly used. I haven't reassembled and leak checked yet. 5 hours in PBW didn't clean it up. I'm more concerned with sanitation than whether it's liquid tight.

It appears from the pic that there is some degradation of the gasket. I believe I see pits and cracks. I would replace it if it were mine as they can be found for less than $15.
