refractometer calibration

I just got my new refractometer today. I got out the distilled water and put it on the face plate and went to adjust the calibration screw. When I screw down there is no white at all in the eyepiece. When I unscrew it, it will only come up a little ways , not enough to get to the zero point on the scale. I tried with a wort sample with the same results. Is there a possibility of a broken spring? Anyone know how to fix this?

yah, sounds like its messed up, i dont know if you can fix it.... i would just return it if you can

Its hosed, they are sending a new one.
