Stupid question....

can i leave these on during the boil and when heating strike water for mash? Just switched to an electric setup. Never used before when i was heating with propane.

If your electric setup uses an element in the pot then I'd say leave them on but if it's sitting on an electric element then personally I would take it off. I started off doing boils on an electric stove and had a Reflectix wrap on my kettle, it started to melt so I removed it.

I made jackets for my HLT and MLT out of moving blankets. I do not remove the one around the HLT while heating liquids. I use 5500w ripple elements.

I did not make one for the boil kettle because 1) response time / heat retention isn't as important and 2) didn't want to have a nasty gummy mess if I ever boiled over. Still need to install grommets in the HLT jaket like I have in the MLT. I use bungees to keep it strapped on the tank.

How is this for an answer? :)

Boil kettle on the right, mash tun on the left. I don't have an element in the mash tun (I just pump the water over from the BK), but both have reflectix insulation on them. Helps a lot.
