When you're drinking it fresh and on a beach in Jamaica. Otherwise Im not a huge fan. We just got back from Jamaica and that was the only beer the resort had. Before we left I had tried some and didnt think it was even drinkable. Somehow it was pretty good when we got there... after a few rum and cokes.

Yup, context is always a big part of things. Kinda like in real estate, "location location Location," or maybe "emotion emotion emotion," should be the term.

Even after all the years brewing and especially drinking craft and imported beers since 1986, the best beer I ever had was ice cold Negra Modelo Especial bought for probably a dime a bottle in 2001, in Ensenada Mexico, and drank on a Sandbar in mexico with fish tacos where the fish was caught and fried within a half hour after is was pulled out of the bay. With a simple wedge of lime for both.

Red Stripe is to me one of those awesome hot summer beers. Make a batch of jerk chicken and get a tin tub and fill it with ice and redstripe and enjoy the day. Plus the bottles rock.

Must be. Back it the room it didnt taste that great. I think the keged beer was alot more carbonated. Between the rum and red stripe, my liver got quite a work out.

Shoot me. I like Red Stripe, without a qualification or an asterisk!

It just had a wierd taste to me, nothing I could pick out, might have just been a bad bottle, Ill have to try some more now that we are back.

Alot of people were drinking Red Eyes. Which was redstripe and tomato juice. It was actually pretty good.

Almost every beer has a time and place. I will still buy Miller Light sometimes. When you're going to float around in the pool and smoke cigars and drink beer all day, you just need something light and beer flavored. No matter how much you like fillet Mignon, a good 'ol MacDonald's cheeseburger still tastes great now and then.

I was drinkin them about a month ago when we went too! and though the red stripe was great on the beach and in the sun its hard to beat a refreshing tanqueray and tonic with those little limes they had! good stuff and a beautiful country, would love to go back!

Id go back right now if that pesky work thing didnt need to be done. It was funny everyone I talked to there was from michigan, minnisota, wisconsin or canada. I bunch of people tired of the cold weather. I drank a bunch of something they called a silver bullet. It was gin, triplesec, lime juice and soda water and something else I can remember. They were really nice and easy to drink.

I like red stripe too. Lol, didn't know it was one of those looked-down-upon beers round here.

btw 100th post

Funny, I swore off red stripe after my Jamaica honeymoon. Really no other reason than I just drank way too much red stripe that week.

Fine beer prior to the over indulgence.

It tastes a lot like Budweiser to me. I'll drink it but for the price of a six pack I'd rather have a 6er of Sam Adams or a 12 pack of Busch Light or PBR.

yeah everyone i met where from around here, plus it seemed like a ton of locals had either been to MN or had a relative living here... maybe a coincidence?

I bought some Red Stripe for a Buffett concert a few years ago. I managed to choke down 2 bottles at the concert, then the other 4 sat in my fridge for a couple of years. It was disgusting. Enough to make me never drink it again. i don't care if it is better fresh on the beach. I don't think I will ever be able to go to Jamaica and have a fresh Red stripe on the beach, so as far as my experience goes, Red Stripe sucks.

There was something about the taste, I didnt like, couldnt quite put my finger on it. It wasnt skunky, but there was an odd taste to it, something I hadnt tasted in any other beer.
