- Start by steeping the grains: Crush the grains (if they're not already crushed), add them to about 1.5gal of 170F water for 30mins. Strain off the liquid (a colander works quite well for this, or you could put the grains in a grain bag) - keep the liquid. Rinse the grains a couple of times with cold or hot water. Keep the liquid, throw out the spent grains.
- Bring the liquid from the grains to a boil along with extra water to make up to 3 gallons (you'll need a large pot). Add your 3lbs of liquid malt extract. When this all comes to a boil, start a one hour timer and add one ounce of nugget hops.
- With 30mins left on the timer, add 0.5oz of Mt hood, 1.0oz with 15mins left and 0.5oz with 1min left.
- Also add a whirlfloc tab with 15mins left and the honey with 3mins left on the timer.
- When the timer is finished, chill the wort, pour vigorously (to aerate) into a fermenter and add cold water to get the volume up to 5.5gals.
- Add your yeast and ferment.
