Hi all,

I've modified this Elder clone by:

Scaling down to 2 gallons
Traded CTZ for hop extract
Reduced boil time to 60 mins
Only dry hopping once

I'm not looking to make an exact clone, so the small difference will not bug me. Any suggested changes to my recipe?

89% - 4.33 lb Pale 2-Row
5% - 4 oz Dextrose
4% - 3 oz Carapils
3% - 2 oz C40

60 min mash at 150

60 min boil
.25 oz CTZ @ 60min
.33 oz Simcoe @ 30 min
.33 oz Centennial @ FO
1 oz Simcoe @ FO

.25 oz Centennial @ dry hop
.25 oz Simcoe @ dry hop
.5 oz CTZ @ dry hop

Software estimates:
IBU of 63.6
OG of 1.065 @ 70% efficiency
FG of 1.016

How does this recipe look? Has anyone used the linked recipe? Any suggested changes?

Thanks!

I would move the 30 minute addition to FO and increase the 60 min to maintain the overall IBUs. I think
a sound fermentation would/should result in a lower FG, >= 1.014. I do believe you will regret not brewing more.
Have you thought about a 20 minute boil? Check that option out. I have been doing it to almost all of my beers
for over a year now. It's a great way to save some time and resources. Good luck!

Unfortunately I am limited by space at the moment. I've never heard of a 20 minute boil, I will do some googling. Thanks!

any reason you're not using the recipe provided by Vinnie Cilurzo?

I just clicked on what I thought was the most recent recipe. Looks like a great link, I will check it out and compare. Thanks.

I'd just roll with the one I linked you to since it's from the brewer himself.

Just scale it down to your volume size.

Nice article. Thanks again. My software shows IBUs through the roof, over twice of what the article says. Is that correct? I see his recipe says IBUs are actual, and not calculated but it seems way off...
