My brother in-law owns a junk removal business and gets lots of scrap materials so I was considering trying to find some steel I could re-use for a single tier brewstand. He gets tons of bedframes but I have read that the steel is inferior for applications that require high temperatures. He also has a large weight bench that looks to have enough 2" square tubing to make the top of the stand and/or 4 legs.

Any pointers in what to look out for when choosing scrap metal for a project like this?

Thanks,

David

My stand is made out of bed frames and is solid as hell. No plans to upgrade, nice and stable doing 10 gal batches.

rust, and wall thickness of the tubing. Really thing is tougher to weld for new/first timers. You can blow it out quickly.
