Afternoon all,

I am a long-time lurker and poster here, but apparently the email I thought I was registered under was incorrect. So here I am with a new username!

Anyhow... I have an RIS that has been aging in my closet for about 9 months. It is a one gallon batch, and I am going to repitch yeast when bottling in order to carbonate it.

For five gallon batches, I have read to simply make a small yeast starter and mix that in with your bottling bucket when you bottle. However, since my batch is so small, I am curious if I should just pitch the yeast without a starter? I do not want to affect the flavor profile of such a small batch with a yeast starter.

Thanks!
Cat

I don't think even with a 5 gallon batch you would need a starter to bottle with. I would just add maybe 2 or 3 grams of dry yeast, rehydrated, to your bottling bucket. Or maybe even use those Prime Dose tablets.

Gotcha - thanks!

I already purchased a vial of liquid yeast - would there be any harm in just tossing the whole thing in? I don't really have any other use for it.

Yeah you can toss the whole thing in but I don't think you really need that much. As long as you don't mind extra sediment at the bottom of your bottles you might as well toss it in.
