Oh, I found this amusing and should share. The old growler was labeled as 32oz, the new one is labeled as 36, so I got curious about how big of a difference there was and whether it was worth using one of the other. So I filled the new one with water to the brim, then poured it into the old one. It didn't come close to filling it, there was probably 4oz of space or so. I then measured it and it looked like it's close to 36, so I think the old growler, despite being labeled as 32oz, fits closer to 40.

Anyway, if you have both growlers definitely use the Founders one to get fills. More beer for the same price. (Though you may want to check your growlers, it's possible that they're all different, though I doubt they're very different.)

Science! Thanks amigo.

Had the Berliner or whatever they are calling it, not that great but if you like Sprite you'll dig it.

FWIW, I tried to replicate this science myself this evening, and found that both my growlers (Founder's and Ambassador's) actually hold about 40oz even. Used water and a measuring cup to gauge amount poured.

Might be worth checking both growlers if you have them, in any case. Wonder if the reported variance was a one-off or if there are big differences between the growlers in general.

Wouldn't surprise me if there are large variances between the growlers, seems inevitable with ceramics.

Yeah, since they're hand made and all, I would think they wouldn't hold a precise amount of liquid. I suppose 36 ounces is the minimum one holds. I wonder what the target size in ounces was, and why it's not closer to the usual 1 liter or 32oz.

Just cracked a cosmic dust and there is no carb. Bottle tastes okay but just flat and just a small hint of flavor. Not super familiar with carb level on wild ales but anyone have similar experience?

While Cosmic Dust is not a fav, never had carb issues. Had one last weekend.

I've had two that were fully carbed, and one that was flat. Emailed them and Alex hooked me up with a replacement right away.

****, my gf loved the label so we ended up with way more bottles than I would have got otherwise.

Have any of you experienced off or terrible bottles from Rare Barrel?

Shared my last Ensorcelled with johnnyramirez and the bottle was a complete disaster. Super thin and watery, bland and flavorless beer, and just not good. He poured his glass out, I chugged mine and chased it with Rueze, which was leagues better.

I had the same experience with a bottle of Proportional Response about a month ago. Same thin nasty ****, but that was drain poured even faster. Just a shame given the price of their bottles.

However, the shadows of their eyes I had on Christmas was downright awesome. But ****, I hate having two different terrible beers and a blown $50 on the pair.

Weird, I've never had that happen. Did you send them an e-mail?

I haven't had any issues. I even had some Ensorcelled a month or two ago for their anniversary party. Still have one left too. Ryan G mentioned having a flat bottle of Cosmic Dust, but I haven't had any issues with that either.

Wasn't necessarily flat, had some carb, but the best way I can compare it would be something like muddy water? Just on overall bad bottle, and it's a shame because the others I have had of it were great. Hoping it's just a couple off bottles I had, with the Ensorcelled and the Proportional response a while back too which was exactly like this bad bottle.

Stocking up on that Shadows of their eyes though.

It went up because, well "because".

Gas prices down, beer prices up. Simple economics.

Still gonna max out, probably my favorite beer from them with a bit of age.
I'm kinda meh on it. Happy to have it, but not really seeking it out. Probably won't buy any.

Anyone try Kerfuffle? It's one of the better offerings I've had from them in awhile.

Wish they had bottled that and not Tigerlily.

Maybe it was the detectable fruit that got me excited.
Haha, what fruited beer that they've put out in the past 6 months hasn't? They've gotten a lot better about that lately. Anyway, I don't think I love this Berliner base. Why is it 5%? That seems high, and it tastes more like a regular golden sour than an actual Berliner.

I ranted on this earlier, but why go a much more expensive route to making a "Berliner" tasting beer?

They call it a Berkliner or whatever since is not a true Berliner so that covers it being 5% and not to style. Why they did it I can't begin to explain. Berliners are great, low abv, drinkable, tart, and ferment out super quick. Maybe they feel more comfortable in their golden sour based brewing so they went that route.

Yeah I know, but they said they did that because it's an appellation, which it isn't, but whatever. Maybe they tried to do a real Berliner and ****** it up so they said "what if we made our regular golden sour like 0.5% lighter and added some wheat?" Whatever, it's fine.

Well, if you ask a purist, a Berliner Weisse can only be brewed in Berlin. The Rare Barrel version is brewed in Berkeley, hence, Berkliner.

And another one...

Entanglement - Berkliner w/orange peels and vanilla beans 4.5%
