I'm back in the land of hummingbirds, one of the world's most fascinating and mesmerizing animals. Hummer wars are a blast to witness.

You can actually hear the mid air collisions when one hummer tries to keep another from the feeder. They are beautiful, but absolutely brutal.

Like squirrels, they look cute but are actually ultra viscious homicidal psychopaths.
They live short, violent lives and most often die gruesome deaths...

We have a pair of hummer feeders and this time of year the females spend much more time at them even while the males try to chest-thump them away...

We live north of you @corkybstewart in the Southern Rockies (directly west of LaJara, CO up the Alamosa river). We go through ~25# of sugar/week keeping 10-15 feeders filled. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 30-40 hummingbirds. Presently our hummers are moving out... migrating south. The Rufus have been gone for a couple of weeks and the Broadtails are migrating as well. We are down to 10-15 and only 6 feeders. Love watching them!

Worksite has been temporarily shut down due to safety concerns, so I try to make myself useful at home instead...
Even with motorised tools you get sweaty just thinking about it...

Love this! My feeder was trashed by raccoons a few years ago and I haven’t attempted it again. Of course, I’d like to place the feeder where I can see the birds.

We had 4 or 5 destroyed by a bear two years ago. Now we bring them in every night.

Love this! My feeder was trashed by raccoons a few years ago and I haven’t attempted it again. Of course, I’d like to place the feeder where I can see the birds.

I have 2 on my sitting porch, one outside the bedroom window and another outside the living room window.

I love this. We separated our feeders thinking it would reduce territorial problems but it didn't.

At night we see bats feeding at the hummingbird feeders.

I thought you were retired. Guess the new guy you hired from Arizona didn't work out.

Did the smoke from the fires in Canada causing farmers to lose their grain harvests? There were vineyards in California that lost grapes from smoke damage a couple years back, seems like grain could get smoke damaged too.

Well, I’m semi-retired. I still help out at harvest time and drive truck some, hauling grain to market.

We‘ve had plenty of smoke from fires but it doesn’t seem to affect the grain.

The guy from AZ never showed for the interview…
