Local store got in Cascade today, 22.99 a bottle. I was shocked and grabbed an Apricot, I've always enjoyed it and that price is pretty solid. In North Carolina it's all $30+ with most bottles closer to $40, from what I've encountered.
Most of the Cascades here in GA are about $30... Scared to take the plunge. Chasing Mexican cake this year is frustrating. Way too many beer nerds in the game now.

I drank 1/3rd of a Cascade Apricot last night, and I honestly can't remember if it was always like that or if I really enjoyed that level of acidity 4+ years ago.

It was hard to finish a 3rd of a bottle amongst friends.

remember when upland lambics were cool? i still have a few left, and save them for bottle shares with people i hate.

Going to the Taproom has been the best way to enjoy Cascade here in Portland. Most of the bottles run about $20 including vintage. Being from Colorado I thought the price point at $28-$40 was a bit much. Honey Ginger Lime is the best thing they make and it never leaves the brewery!

I have a stupid amount of Upland left (which I'm saving to share with MordorMongo & claaark13), but the older Uplands aren't anywhere near as bad as the new Upland (2012 and on).

Can't remember if the same is true for Cascade.

I have zero non-sour reserve upland in my possession.

Zero point zero.

Last January at a bottle I drank a pour of Upland Raspberry from b1, which was 2005 or 2006 or something like that (MordorMongo can probably correct this). It was incredibly delicious, not overly acidic at all, and had a ton of fruit left. Probably one of the most remarkable AWAs I've had especially given what I was expecting, which was battery acid.

While I haven't had any that old, I can confirm that there was a period around 2011-2013 where everything they were doing was delicious. SR B2 fresh may still be the best AWA I've ever had.

And I'll gladly take any recent batches that people are trying to get rid of. While they are practically undrinkable by themselves, they make amazing mixers for fruited-up G&Ts...

From page 177 of Wood & Beer "The boys at Upland used to rinse their fouders with hot water and scrub them from inside by hand, but now they call it good with a cold water rinse."

On the same page we find out Green Bench hasnt cleaned their giant barrel in 2 years. Whoulda thunk it?

You just don't have the palate for Green Bench. They are doing great in Yugoslavia where people know what good beer is.

You keep that **** away from meadapalooza.

Ha, Bring on the Beer emails. Was wondering when they'd show up here.

Honestly, I thought the Hair of the Dog email would be the one:

**** I don't even know what's happening in that email.

Also the Velvet Underground of beer?

When then might you enjoy a beer from Hair of the Dog?

We can come up with a few scenarios.
  1. Your father, the world's wealthiest oil magnate just put you in charge of the company's Morris M52, which you have agreed will only be used for business purposes.
  2. Your brother's name is Nelson Bunker Hunt and the two of you are meeting in an undisclosed location to discuss final plans to corner the silver market.
  3. Any scenario involving mergers, corporate takeovers, conglomerates, organizations and syndicates.

Super reminiscent of the Velvet Underground.

can anyone recommend a beer similar to 4d that is readily available or easier to come by? not just any old ale (adam for example) but something similar to 4d in taste. every old ale i've had has been pretty unique...but i really wanna find something close to 4d. i don't follow new releases much so i haven't seen anything come out recently like that...and a lot of breweries don't really pump out that style.

That's a tough one. That beer is pretty much the top of the heap. Bell's Third Coast with a little age on it is really good, but 4D has that incredible mouthfeel.

agreed...4d is just perfect for the style whether its barrel aged or not i just love it. but i feel like it would be pretty tough to find someone looking to let go of a bunch at once

Nothing else is 4D, but Michigan pretty much has Old Ales covered between 4D, Third Coast and Curmudgeon. And you take them in that order. But Curmudgeon is the most available and will do in a pinch.
