This gas station, without a single other Founders beer in the cooler, with a small stack of KBs. And $3 / 4 pack cheaper than the liquor store I bought some at the other day. This is where we are now.

Had a ton of it stacked up at the grocery store this week, too. $22 for a 4 pack, and $25 for a bomber. I guess beer nerds are bad at math.

That's a ******* gas station?
LOL. That's a Bucee's.

They have one between Austin and San Antonio that is actually the world's largest gas station. It has over 60 pumps and the store is pretty close to Walmart in size.

Why?

Texas.

I am constantly surprised at how much KBS has been sitting at the Spec's in central Austin not being sold. I remember people following trucks a few years ago for this beer.

Also I came here to post this:

Would certainly crush both KBS and Glass of Sunshine right now.

KBS circle of life - 10 years ago, I'd get them as extras. A year or 2 later, they jumped to massive trade bait, with folks lining up and chasing trucks. Now....sits in stacks down the steeet from me, In California.

To thier credit, it still tastes like the same decent BA coffee stout 10 years later.

When i have to go to my east Texas places I stop at the Bucees Baytown often. Bucees really is a road side institution. And the best kept bathrooms imagineable. With floor to ceiling ******* stall doors for comfort and privacy.

And now.... KBS

I usually extra bucees snacks in beer boxes.

feels more like the sentiment is:

10 years ago: wow, that KBS was really good. i hope this thing doesn't take off and start becoming hard to get.

7 years ago: ****, KBS is impossible to get. i wish Founders would make more so i could buy it.

now: ******* trash beer just rots on shelves because it's ******* terrible. why does Founders even make beer? garbage ass, tired brewery that just makes ****.

They need to make more Curmudgeon's Better Half. I meant to squirrel more away then "accidentally" drank it all.

So that was at the Baytown Bucees? Cause I pass that up a few times a week.

For me it's:

10 years ago: Wow KBS is really good, hope they make more of this
7 years ago: Whoops 1 per person
2 years ago: Wahoo it's available again
Now: Boycott those racist Founders fuckers

My KBS experience.

Was lucky to get on a list
Got in line for a 1 per person (brought my wife and her friend to get me a total of three)
Then see vintages of it hanging around and beer stores. But some.
Made its way to the super markets.
Now stacks. No lists. No lines.

And now me with a whole bunch of aged years drinking those to clear out the “cellar”.

That does seem to be the end game here.

Speaking of nearly clear "hazy" IPAs, Russian River made one that was barely hazier than Blind Pig. Better than most actually hazy IPAs though. It was funny to put it next to a Moonraker one, my wife thought one was Happy Hops and the other the hazy beer.

I order the hazy IPA at every new brewery I go to just so I can say I had it and didn't care for it when some chuckledick asks. Still haven't had a hazy IPA I enjoyed more than classic west coast staple Blind Pig. Doubt I ever will.

The brewery is unrecognizable today. Both physically and as a metaphor. Every time in the last year I have driven past on the way to a show in GR I am stunned. Their little corner of GR is out of room though. I have never seen the Detroit location, but I don’t think it has room to grow either. Maybe San Miguel is providing extra capacity elsewhere.

They’re making a shitload more Pig these days with the quality deteriorating nil. We’re swimming in it down here which is ******* fantastic.

Went to Toronado SF last July and the Blind Pig pour I had was phenomenal. They can take all of the nearly identical tasting haze and drop it into the ocean for all I care.

With the expansion I've had Blind Pig a few times recently (they stopped brewing it for a while!) and either it's not the same or my tastes have changed. I still prefer WC to Hazy for sure, but I feel like RR stands out less than it used to.

Am I the only one that gets immense pleasure out of unwrapping wrapped cans to see what original can they used? That can’t be a practice that only happens here. Smaller breweries wrap overstocked cans with a sticker for their limited releases.

Just unwrapped a DDH IPA from TUPPS up in Dallas to see a American Wheat Ale can... that’s about right.

Austin Beerworks? All their wrapped cans are blanks. That’s success right there.

The shrink sleeve wraps or an actual sticker?

That typically depends on if they buy pre labeled cans or not. Most canning lines require you to label after the can is filled.
