Ranco needs calibration??

I have a chest freezer with a ranco controller for lagering. It is set to stay between 35F and 42F and seemingly that is what it does by its digital readout but I added a small freestanding freezer thermometer today and it shows about 6F colder than the ranco shows. The ranco sensor is loosely in the middle of the freezer and not touching the carboy.

Anyone with advice?
