Ranco Controller wiring question

Just wondering if it's best to use an extension cord for wiring up my ranco controller and if there are any recommended guages I should be using.

I used an extension cord to wire my ranco. I didn't want to cut the cord on my freezer as I might want to use it as an actual freezer some day and move the ranco to another unit. I can't recall the gauge, though. It is pretty beefy.

14/3 should be good, and keep it under 25 feet.

little tough since it's about 30 years old and given to me. I think I'll be safe if I plan on 12ga. for 16 amps or less.

Sorry, I made my recommendation on the lack of your specifics... ..have you Googled it???

I was taught that 14g. is for 15 amps and 12g. is for 20A. My Ranco 111000-000 is rated at 16 full load A @120v. Using 12g will not be a negative, except in whatever additional cost this is.

Any electrical appliance will have a tag showing voltage and amp use. I doubt that any home frig or freezer will draw more than 15A.

I would aim for a very thick, tough insulation coating.
