Hi all!

I'm kind of a lurker here but the information I have picked up from all of you has been invaluable. Anyway here goes:

I ran out of DAP and won't be out to my HBS for another week. I wanted to start a 2-3 gallon batch of some simple Welch's wine tomorrow. I normally would use a tsp. of DAP per gallon but since I'm out, I wanted to use raisins. I have heard they can provide the nitrogen and some other nutrients. Question is, do I just throw them whole into the must and the little guys can get to them? Or do I split them up? Mash them? Boil them? Blender them?
Oh, I I know that I don't want raisins with any kind of sulfates on them. Could I use prunes as well? Any help would be great! Thanks.

i have a little knowledge but never went through in wine making. i remember reading the raisins need be heat treated? the sulfur dioxide ones are bad for this. a puree with a little water will do. if i find the bookmark to this, ill send it your way.
