Can anyone explain to me what extacly a racking cane is used for and how to use it?

When transferring liquids from one vessel to another, the cane acts as a rigid piece of tubing that allows you to place the tube (the cane) on teh bottom of the vessel to aid siphoning.

^^^^ With that being said, skip the racking cane and move to the auto-siphon. You'll be glad you did. Also, I've still found the racking cane to be useful in conjunction with the auto-siphon. I always hated how the tubing in the receiving vessel would curl and float, etc. during transferring. So I now attach the transfer tubing to the racking cane, insert it into the receiving container (keg or secondary fermenter) and the siphoning is silent with no bubbling.
the autosiphon changed my life!
