I was working on a good base Robust Porter recipe that I could then use to add flavors. It hit the two week mark and smelled wonderful and tasted good, but flat. I transfered it to my carboy and started transporting it the 25 feet to the fermentation chamber, and I feel my arm get lighter and hear a crash. Over 5 gallons of Porter all over the floor and little shards of glass everywhere. The handle on the carboy carrier was not as tight as I had thought it was and the neck slipped right through.

Damn, what a waste.:(

Now I have to brew another batch. I guess that's the good news?

I can only imagine the things that might pop out of my mouth were that to happen to me!

You have the right attitude. Sorry that happened to you

RIP dear Porter that might have been.

Wait, did you have something on the neck to carry it by? If so, then I would not suggest carrying a full carboy by those neck handles. I bought one of the web strap 'basket' type that supports the carboy from the bottom.

No blood, good result. Gave up on glass years ago. No sense in risking being maimed or worse for the sake of beer. There can be other Porters if you maintain all of your extremities.

RIP

At least it was only two weeks in. I've heard horror stories of year+ RIS and sours being ruined in various ways. I'd probably go mental if a barrel project went kaput.

Yeah, those carboy handles aren't meant for carrying full carboys. But you know that now.
Get a milk crate or the flat webbing carboy carrier.
