Hey guys, I just bottled my first batch yesterday and it is now bottle conditioning. I was just thinking about when I was cleaning all my equipment, and I am wondering about the bottom piece of my racking cane/auto-siphon. I believe it allows liquid in but restricts sediment, but I clamped it to be about an inch above the bottom of my fermenter. But my question is, I wasn't able to open up that bottom piece during cleaning, I just cleaned the outside and flushed the auto-siphon. Is that good enough cleaning for the bottom piece or could there still be bacteria-harboring sediment in there?

Thanks all :mug:

That's all I do..I just use the bottling bucket and sanitized water and siphon it into the just used carboy which not only cleans out the racking came. It sanitizes it as it goes along! [emoji482]

I always just run clean soapy water thru AS SOON AS THE TRANSFER is made. I don't want anything to dry anywhere in the siphon.

Are you sure you can't pull it off?

In any case, if you wash it, rinse it, and sanitize it really well, it SHOULD be ok.

I rinse mine out. Then when I'm getting ready to bottle I soak the auto siphon in the bottling bucket filled with star San. Then after a while I autosiphon E everything out of the bucket. This flushes out the racking cane.

Great idea siphoning everything out of bottling bucket brandonlovesbeer. I pumped it a few times to get some through, thinking I'd do the same before next batch. But siphoning a few gallons would do it for sure! :mug:
