Hello,

I brewed a partial mash IPA 3 weeks ago. I added DME toward the end of boil to boost the alcohol content. When I went to take the OG, the beaker of wort was pretty sludgy and not clear at all (trub, etc.) and read 1.086. (I filled the primary bucket with the wort and then when I got near the trub is when I filled the beaker for the OG reading.) Should I trust the sludgy reading or would that have compromised the true OG reading?

Thanks!

Let all the crap settle down at the bottom of the jar your reading in. If your hydromter is still floating, vs resting on the trub, it's a fine reading.

I'm pretty skeptical of OG readings after late DME additions and topoffs. If everything isn't mixed uniformly, the chances of a bad reading are pretty high.
