Can someone plug pumpkin into beersmith and let me know how it changes the OG. I will be using 3 cans in the secondary:
6 gallon batch
14g sugar in each can (42g sugar total)

Thanks!

I've found it doesn't have any noticeable change in gravity. I plan my beer as if the pumpkin wasn't there.

Are you using Pumpkin Pie Mix, or canned pumpkin? I can tell you that I used 60oz (two large cans) of Libby's pumpkin, and I hit the exact OG and FG I planned on when I ignored the pumpkin all together. Two years in a row now.

There is no way to plug the pumpkin in to Beersmith and get any sort of figure because pumpkin is not in the ingredients list. I have posted to the Beersmith forum to try and find out how to designate characteristics to ingredients you add and not gotten any response. I added 40 oz of pumpkin to mine this year and came out higher than my expected OG.

It will be so minimal. I just did the math (maybe I should have done this in the first place) 42g = about 1.5oz sugar. won't make much of a difference at all.

What about the starch in the pumpkin that will be converted during mashing? Again, probably not a lot, but combined with the sugar, it will make a difference. My target OG was 1.046 and I hit 1.050 with 40 oz of pumpkin. I usually come in a little low.
