Anyone have any thoughts on if it is safe to use a bayou classic propane burner on a wood porch? I think that it is rated at 150k BTU. I just got my two new boilkermakers but my pumps and everything wont be here for another week or so and I really want to give them a test run. I figure I can do a gravity fed system of my porch until then but don't want to risk burning my house down.

Propane burner on a Porsche?

Oh, a porch. How boring. ;) Did you consider one of those grill pads you put under a grill? Although I am not sure how heat-proof they are.

I was thinking the same. should I then put it on cinder blocks and raise it a good 6-12 inches off the ground? what's the deal?

I'm thinking sq14

That was my thought when I saw the subject line. Man, that's going to scratch and scorch the paint on your Porche...

For some people there is just no other way to brew than on the roof of your luxury sports car while traveling at high speeds.

I always brew on the porch and haven't had any problems. Sometimes I'll even place a large piece of cardboard under the burners to save the porch in case of spills. Maybe my burners aren't as hot as that though... but I'm pretty sure one is a Bayou Classic.

I've done every batch I've ever brewed on my deck. Bayou turkey fryer setup. No scorching, no house-burning (so far)... I used to use a large piece of tile under the burner. Stopped doing that two or three batches in.

I have no problem on my wood porch with my Bayou Classic KAB4 (this one) and it says it's 150K BTU. I now brew in the garage but I typical wear sandals in the winter and put my feet underneath the burner to warm them up...

Try lighting it up in your driveway or something and put your hand under it (carefully).

I always put a square piece of wood under my burner to protect my wood deck. Strangely though, the protective wood shield never has had any ill effect from the heat anyway. Still, $2 piece of wood isn't much for piece of mind.

I should add: my deck is a piece of $hit that needs to be resurfaced/repainted or even replaced. If it DID scorch the wood, the most you'd hear from me is "meh." Even my SWMBO probably wouldn't notice or care... YMMV.

I Brew on a wood deck during the summer. No problems yet.

In March Evets had a group brew where there was around 10 burners on his deck at the same time. His house is still standing.

I dont know, I have the kab6 and the legs on that thing get scorching hot. I'd just buy some pavers or 2 cinder blocks.

I bought 4 cheap tiles at Home Depot (12"), and glued them do a 2'x2' plywood sheet.

the KAB5 banjo burner sits on that. never hurt my wood deck and also catches drips to reduce mess on the porch.
