Made an extract kit a couple of weeks ago on my new equipment, first time without my experienced brewing teacher. It went well, but I had more boil off than I thought I would. Followed advice here and after I thought it was done fermenting, I gave it a couple of more days and then did 3 consecutive days of gravity testing. All three days gave me the same reading, so I figured it was time to bottle.

I did not mark my carboy adequately so I "guesstimated" about 4.5 gallons new beer. I am not good at guessing volumes. Anyway, boiled up some priming sugar this morning to bottle and put in 3/4 cup as per the books I was reading. I officially ended up with 4 gallons (found out after I racked to my bottling bucket which had the measurements)

My question is, did I add too much sugar. I don't want any "bottle-bombs". I hindsight I should have measured the sugar after I knew how much beer I had, but I wanted a good mixture of beer and priming solution.

I should be good, right ??

Thanks for any insights.

Cheers :D

You should be ok. It will probably be a little overcarbed, but should turn out fine. I guess now you know you should mark your carboys.

Thanks for the quick reply double e5 - Make no mistake, as I was cleaning the carboy this morning, I marked it adequately.

I see you are from KC. I went to school at Rolla - I absolutely love Boulevard beer. What do you think of it ?

Cheers :D

Most of their offerings are pretty good. I love the Bully Porter. They just released their Single Wide IPA. If you can get some it is pretty good and you don't have to pay $10 a sixer for it.

I had a similar scare a couple batches ago....I ended up bottling to early.. (Rookie Mistake) Just in case you havent thought about it, I put all my bottles inside a large trash bag and tied it off just in case....so it would be easier to clean up...luckily I didnt have any...good luck
