Hi Folks, I've given homebrewing two tries now with no success. After my two seperate attempts i've been discouraged but i do want to give it another go this fall when the weather cools down. For some reason my OG is always in range but then after fermentation my final is always above range and my beer is syrupy and does not taste right. Thus, I've decided i want pay somebody to come to my apartment in brooklyn and do a private tutoring session with me to see what i'm doing right/wrong so i can finally get it right. Let me know if any of you experienced folks would be interested in tutoring me. Best, Ehsan.

You really shouldn't have to pay someone to tutor you :)

Perhaps you can tell us what kits you've tried and how you went about brewing and fermenting the beer and basic process. You can also ask around and see if there is a home brew club near you that you could look into to find someone to help you out.

Brewing beer is pretty simple and it's probably a simple oversight of something that is preventing you from being successful.

I actually paid a guy 20 bucks for an all-grain lesson. There were 4 of us in the "class", so it paid for his ingredients and he handed out a packet of information that was pretty comprehensive. I learn much better when I can see it in front of me instead of in a text. That was before I realized how many homebrewers there are around my area. Still worth the 20.

Get in touch with a local club. I'm sure you can find someone to help you out locally --- for free, or at least for a couple beers. I'm a member of the NYC Homebrewers Guild and also attend Brooklyn Knights meetings. Bitter and Esters in Prospect Heights also offers classes.

It sounds like your beers are under-attenuated. Pour yeast health / pitches, or pushing the beer to packaging before it is ready are often culprits. It doesn't sound like the issue is necessarily occurring during the brew day.

Head over to bkhomebrew on 9th and 3rd. They over classes there from beginner to all grain. Great teacher hes a local science teacher and ove taken 2 class w him. Check out there website for class offerings too.
