So there's not many things that are so nice and relaxing as going fishing and having some pilsners by your side. with spring starting, i'm planning my summer beers now, and just tossing around ideas. I love dry hop aromas, but mainly only citrus and fruit aromas. I'm wondering if anybody has ever successfully dry hopped a pils with something a little fruity, something that still makes you think of summertime fishing.

p.s. summer here in norway is pretty much the equivalent of early spring in Oklahoma. so it's not like i'm looking for a beer to make it through the dog days of summer. just something refreshing.

There are plenty of commercial craft pils/helles/pale lagers that have appeared here in the last two years that have used aggressive NW hops. Some seem to work better than others, im not a fan of the ones that advertise the C hops too much. Bitter grapefruit is an odd combination with a pils for me.

I think the important thing is that the bittering addition is a clean soft bitter, like warrior, or perle, or something, in a lower mineral water. A rough bitter in a pils I find unpleasant, and alot of the commercial examples have that here.

All ive done dry hopped was Sterling, which tastes like saaz with a bit of fruit, so nothing too exciting, but that was certainly pleasant, and crystal, which isnt too out there from a noble hop as well, but also was good.

Epic's Hop Syndrome is an American Lager dry hopped with Crystal, Calypso, and Lemon Drop.

It's a very refreshing beer

what about something like using saaz as the bittering hop and dry hopping with hallertau blanc?

I had a pils dry hopped with equinox at Pinthouse Pizza in ATX 2 weeks ago that i really enjoyed. I think pils a great way to showcase these new fruit bomb hops

That sounds very reasonable. While I havent used H. Blanc in a lager before, Ive used it in some delicate beers and liked it very much; I can see it working. You could probably bitter with sterling, if its cheaper in your area, For a bittering addition I doubt you could tell the difference.

I think you should try dry hopping with Citra hops...great stuff...think it will provide aroma you are looking for.

i'm very familiar with citra. one of my favorite hops. not necessarily the profile i'm looking for on this one. although i will be doing a small scale batch (9L) of this before i do the 25L batch. i'll be splitting that one into two 6L buckets, 4.5 in each. maybe i should do the split pre-boil and try one h. blanc and one citra.
