Hey Guys,

So I'm just wanting to hear some opinions on how you guys think this beer would of turned out if I had finished it.

I've got an electric system and today I found out one of the downsides of having it. When the power goes out your screwed! I had literally just dumped my grain in and it showed 140F. I've got a HERMS systems so this isn't unusual since I just start running it and within few minutes and it comes up to my rest temp. Today I was shooting for 150 for 90 min. Unfortunately the power went out before I could bring it up to temp. So the mash sat at 140 for 1hr30min. Once it came back on I started to heat it up and ask around what people thought. I ended up scrapping this batch for several reasons. 1. This is meant to be a competition brew for our club. 2. Time, I have to work night shift and it definately would of been rushed. 3. I didn't want to waste 11oz of good hops, simcoe, columbus and zythos on a "so-so" batch. I'm sure it would of been drinkable but I'm curious about how you guys think it would of turned out. I'm guessing it would of been super dry and finished low. If you had been in my shoes and continued with the batch what would you have done to keep it within the targets that I had set in the recipe. OG of 1.064 and FG of 1.013. IBU of 72. How would you have prevented it from finishing dry or can that be prevented at this point.

No , I would have brewed it, not to the target you wanted but it would have become beer. What was the SG before you dumped it? Even if you only got 1.030 it could have become a thirst quencher brew for a hot afternoon.

Or

Blend it with another mash, it would still have made beer!

You simply could have skipped the Alpha and went straight to 168-170F mash out. Then increased the boil time for a higher OG than planned. Depending on the yeast chosen (attn range) figured what OG you needed to comfortably ride higher than your initial target FG. Like shoot for a 1.015.

you did not have to continue the original recipe, you could have made a thin blonde rocket fuel beer, your friends who do not like good beer would have loved it
take the wort and hop it to 14 ibu and let it go
