i'm finaly doing my starter for a well deserved brew day tomorrow thank to that biiii-aaaaatttcchhhh Rita! :cross: it's sunny, nice 73 degrees, and will be a picture perfect brew day tomorrow.
anyone else brewing this weekend? if so, what is the brew? i'm doing a Fat Tire clone from my local HBS (all-grain, 5 g).

I'm brewing right now. Starter is in full krausen, I've already mashed out and the brew kettle is boiling, hot break is done, bittering hops are in, the timer is set and I'm catching up here while drinking a homebrew. It's a great day in Texas for sure. 70's and sunny. I love it.

I'm doing an ordinary Bitter. My own recipe but built to style guidelines.

If ORRELSE gets back at a decent time today, we might do a batch at his place. I just moved, so my brewery stuff is all packed away. I probably won't be doing another batch 'til next week.

It's a little chilly here, but we'll manage!

cool moe dee.

this is prime brewing weather here, hu scott? tap water temps are down, so chilling is quicker. i'm not heat strok'n during the boil, and i don't need IV's to re-hydrate when i'm done w/ clean-up!
Hurst? near dallas/ft. worht right?
goin' to the races next week at Texas Motor Speedway. we're leaving wednesday morning to set up the RV and hit a few brew pubs in the area (probably Big Buck because it's close).

When you're in town, you've got to hit a couple of places in Fort Worth. IMHO, Big Bucks is just OK. One evening, you've got to hit a place on Montgomery street in Fort Worth called the Bull and Bush. It's a great little pub that serves very good beer. The other is the Flying Saucer down on the square in Fort Worth. 100 beers on tap. They'll have your flavor for sure.

Oh and if you're hungry when you're near the Bull and Bush, The Railhead is just about 1/2 mile south on Montgomery and they've got Good BBQ.

The Bull and Bush is sust north of I30 on Montgimery and the Railhead is just south of I30. Enjoy.

cool, thanks. i used to live in dallas (monfort & preston oaks) so i'm a little familiar w/ fort worth, but not much.
the main reason i want to go to big buck is a friend of mine won best of show at the Bluebonnett Brew-off this year, and he went up in june or july and brewed the winner w/ the brewer there. should be on tap now(too early IMHO).
we have a flying saucer in houston. cool place.
ever made the Rahr & Son's brewery? they have good brews, especially the red lager. yummy!

I did a barley wine yesterday. Today I finish the cleanup. And stare at the bubbler, willing it to move (we all do this, right?)

I'm starting right now...a Hobgoblin clone. Just had to wait for the football games to be over. I'm a little concerned tho...don't know if I can get a good boil going in this freezing weather. ;)

You gonna have some calf fries when you're in Ft. Worth?

eerr....uh.....HELL NO!! i like oysters from the gulf, not a mountain! :~)

never had ahobgoblin. seen it at spec's and central market....need to give one a swig.

That's very cool they your friend won that big competition and that he got to brew at Big Bucks. Any idea the name of the brew? I'd like to try it.

I've never made it to the Rahr & Son's brewery. I'll try and make a brewery tour some time. I'll have to give that red lager a try.

Scott, I sure don't. I'd have to go to the Bluebonnett website and see if they have it, or ask Dean (Domec) at our club meeting next week. I know it's an E.K.U. (doppelbock) or barleywine. If you go, just ask the server, they may now? Dean said they had a stuck sparge because the brewer had never brewed that high a gravity beer on the system before. He was quite embarassed  but they saved it. I don't think they hit the target gravity either? Dean's a famoushomebrewer around our neck of the woods. He won Best of Show at the AHA National a few years ago, and has many medals hanging in the bar room at home. Good source of knowledge for us in the arm-pit of Texas! :D

My brother and I went to the Texas Craft Brewer's Festival in Austin this past May, and Rhar and Son's was there. They are only a little over a year old, and have 3 offerings. Blonde Lager, Red Lager, and Ugly Pug. I think they do tours on Satuday @ 3.
