I dry-hopped (pellets) my latest batch of beer and when it came time to bottle it I saw that there was some hop-like vegetation floating in my wort. I managed to get rid of most of it during the siphoning process from fermenter to bottling bucket, but some still remained. I chose not to chance risk contaminating my beer by attempting to filter it (seeing as I didn't have the equipment for such a task anyway) and just went ahead and bottled it. Very very little of the vegetation made it into the bottling bucket (the break in the hops sock/filter was quite small), much of what did get to the bucket stuck to the sides as I bottled the brew, and to be perfectly honest I didn't see any of it go through the clear siphoning tube into the bottles. So, I gotta ask, if any of this hop debris did make it into my bottles is it going to have a significant impact on the outcome of my beer?

Yeah, I guess I was just a bit worried about it "rotting" inside of the bottle or something... seeing as it IS vegetation and all...

It's alcohol so that should kill most bad things. I really wouldn't worry about it rotting. Besides Hops are suppose to have anapestic qualities but I'm not sure why or how.

When I dry hop I just throw pellets in my fermenter and there is usually can see little bits in the bottom of the bucket. I'm sure some get into a bottle or two but I have yet to have a problem. Drinking a dry hoped black IPA right now actually. It's damn good too.

Sounds good, never had a black IPA. I'll have to search for a recipe. In the mean time, I appreciate you sharing that with me, about adding your hop pellets straight up and not ever having an issue. So you're able to add the hops without that sock thingy? Do they generally just settle on the bottom of the fermenter?

Psh, relax. Hops are a critical ingredient in beer, this won't hurt a thing outside of a possible hit to your beer's clarity.

Yeah they just settle to the bottom. Since I got a mini fridge I'm using as a fermentation chamber I've been cold crashing for 48 hours (Refrigerating to shrink the trub cake and to clear up the beer) and that helps get all the extra crap out of it.
